When was the first government teacher training school established in Hong Kong? Who was the first Hong Kong teacher training college named after? The public can now have a glimpse of the 128-year heritage of teacher education in Hong Kong when visiting public libraries.
The Roving Exhibition on Education Year Teacher Training and Education Heritage was held in six public libraries in the districts of Kowloon, Shatin, Tuen Mun, Tsuen Wan, Quarry Bay and Tai Po between 15 August and 23 October 2009. The exhibition echoed the current exhibition on teacher training at the Hong Kong Museum of Education, hoping to promote public awareness of education and teacher education in the wider community.
Resembling a time tunnel, the exhibition walked visitors through Hong Kong’s 128 years of teacher education heritage and development. It featured important developments in education and teacher education in Hong Kong, with reminiscences from various Institute’s alumni, local educators and valuable photos.
The exhibition was supported by the Leisure and Culture Services Department, and organised by The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) in celebration of the Institute’s 15th Anniversary.
