The Hong Kong Museum of Education is mounting an exhibition of photos and artifacts relating to the late Mr Szeto Wah, an alumnus of the Grantham College of Education and a long-time friend of The Hong Kong Institute of Education. The exhibition is in memory of our beloved alumnus, and outlines his contributions to education in Hong Kong.

Mr Szeto was a graduate of the first cohort of the Grantham College of Education (G.C.E.) and has been the chairman of the G.C.E. Past Students’ Association since 1968. The exhibition showcases over 40 photos and 25 artifacts, many of which are on loan from the personal collection of Mr Szeto Wah’s family. In addition, the display includes exhibits from the Museum of Education, The Hong Kong Professional Teachers’ Union as well as the Alumni Affairs and Development Office of HKIEd.

Highlights of the exhibition include rare original manuscripts of Mr Szeto, his Grantham Training College Teacher’s Certificate (1954), and his certificate of completion at the age of 15 of the junior secondary education at Kaiping provincial school in 1945. Other documents are from the Grantham College of Education Past Students’ Association, including a series of photos which highlight his association with the HKIEd,, the G.C.E.Past Students’ Association, and as the headmaster of the G. C. E. Past Students’ Association Kung Tong Primary School and the chief-councilor of G. C. E Past Students’ Association Whampoa Primary School.

The exhibition also presents a special video screening of the full oral history interview with Mr Szeto, (1 hour 52 minutes duration), conducted by the “Education ＆ Heritage Oral History Project” of the HKIED in March, 2009. During the interview, Mr Szeto shared stories of his college life, his 40 years experience in education and his views on local educational developments in response to political, economic and social changes in Hong Kong.

All colleagues and students of the HKIEd as well as members of the public are cordially invited to visit the exhibition and to sign the condolence book to pay their respects to Mr Szeto.
