On 8 and 9 July 2016, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) organised the first Six Arts Five Constant Virtues Carnival. The two-day Carnival, scheduled to take place during the post-examination weeks on school calendars, attracted over 4,000 students and members of the public to the EdUHK campus to enjoy a rich variety of activities.
The Carnival was coordinated by the Hong Kong Museum of Education and jointly organised with the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts, Department of Chinese Language Studies, Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education, Department of Health and Physical Education, and Department of Mathematics and Information Technology with the support of EdUHK Library and The Hong Kong Institute of Education Jockey Club Primary School.
The Carnival launch ceremony, held on 8 July, was officiated at by Acting President Professor John Lee, who was joined by Vice-President (Administration) Ms Sarah Wong, Organising Work Group Co-Chairman Professor Si Chung-mou, External Members of the Education Heritage Advisory Committee and Heads of the co-organising and supporting units.
The Carnival activities, themed “Six Arts” (Rites, Music, Archery, Charioteering, Calligraphy and Mathematics) and “Five Constant Virtues” (Benevolence, Righteousness, Ritual, Wisdom and Sincerity), introduced participants to traditional Chinese culture and values presented from new perspectives through creative designs. The more than 40 activities included inter-school competitions, sports activities, performances, exhibitions, a film screening and game booths distributed throughout the campus.
